Ipswich volleyball club ladies team had their first double header of the year on Sunday (21st). Starting off against Richmond, Ipswich struggled to get going and Richmond took advantage, unleashing some strong serving. The game continued like this with Ipswich struggling to wake up and defend the service. Despite this low mood the setter Iza Karwacka was in high spirits and pushed the team to improve their game. In the end Ipswich lost 3-0 and Iza Karwacka was titled Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Following a break the team came back on court to face Ashcombe, the second team of the day. Ipswich started strong and gave Ashcombe a good competition but lost the first set by just a few points. After this start Ipswich ladies came back stronger and thrashed Ashcombe, winning the 2nd set. Coming back on with a new found confidence and energy the team pushed on and a few different players came on court, varying the team. Despite trying hard, Ipswich lost the third set.
Having thrashed Ashcombe in the second set, and narrowly missing out on the third set, Ipswich came back with vengeance, the team played well together and some great hits were produced by outside hitters Everita Sokolova, and Julia Vidot. This set left Ipswich 2-2, tied with Ashcombe. The final set, played to just 15 points began shakily, with strong serves being sent Ipswich’s way. But quickly the team adapted and pulled back to 5-5. From this point on the team played confidently, leading to a win 15-10. Ipswich won the match with captain Julia Vidot being named Most Valuable Player.
Meanwhile Ipswich men remain undefeated in the Essex League with a 3-0 win against Tendering with Lukas Kundrotas being named as Most Valuable Player.
