As we see our 2017 come to a close we all like to look back over the year and reflect. Ipswich Volleyball Club has had a very busy year of volleyball and seen some pretty big changes happen during the year..
At the start of 2017 the men’s and ladies NVL teams were half way through their season. The men’s team had only lost 1 game and were top of their league, the ladies team had only won 2 games and were in 7th place.
2017 turned out to be a tough start to the year for the men, who only won 1 match in the remainder of the season. The ladies team kept building and improving and managed to finished in 4th place with some impressive results against tough opposition.
The club faced some tough decisions over the summer, our home venue Maidenhall Sports Centre was closing down and the men’s team squad numbers dwindling.
The decision to move the club to Northgate wasn’t an easy one, but after looking into a few different venues around Ipswich, Northgate Sports Centre seemed the best option. The club invested in new equipment for the move to Northgate, the decision was made to enter both teams into the Essex Volleyball League and only continue with the Ladies NVL team.
Since the start of the 2017/18 the club has settled into Northgate Sports Centre very well, the beginners & social volleyball session is well attended and both the Ipswich men’s and ladies teams are unbeaten in the Essex volleyball league!
The ladies national volleyball team currently sit in 8th position in the table, but are only 4 points off 3rd position with 2 games in hand! 2018 should be an exciting year for the ladies NVL team!! If you haven’t seen the ladies play yet make sure you keep 25th March 2018 free for their next home match.
Ipswich’s MaVIS tournament has been well attended by all teams from around Suffolk and has given the chance for all our club players to mix together to enjoy volleyball, long may this continue!
I would like to thank the hardworking committee members for such a good year, it has been hard work, but with such a good group working together it hasn’t felt like work achieving what we have.
The committee would like to wish you all a happy new year! Our resolution for 2018 is to keep bringing you great volleyball sessions and building the club.
Let’s see you all back on the court and enjoy 2018 as part of an amazing club.
