Ipswich Ladies travelled to Surrey to take on Ashcombe Dorking 2 in their first away fixture of the season.
The Ipswich ladies have had a mixed start to the season with a win and a loss in the league, so were keen to prove themselves as top of the table contenders against the Ashcombe side.
The first set started very much that way with middle blocker Anita Cooper establishing herself as a threat from the very beginning, by blocking out Ashcombe’s attack from every hitter. Unfortunately the ladies couldn’t keep their momentum despite accumulating a huge lead and lost the first set 25 – 22.
The next set saw Kasia Plesnar putting pressure on with her strong serve and Ania’s Copper reliable passing and defending meant the setters could create some unstoppable attacks. The Ipswich side won the second set 20 – 25 and went into the next set buzzing with confidence.
Iza Karwacka put the pressure Ashcombe with powerful serving and incredible pick ups, not letting the ball drop. The girls had to work hard in this set, with some long rallies and great saves from both sides and took this set convincingly 15 -25.
Going into the 4th set, Otylia Miazga came on just at the right moment to confuse the opposition with her serve and Emma Goosey used her attack through the middle to split their defence and score vital points. Zoe Verow produced some strong attacks through the outside which the Ashcombe defence couldn’t pick up. They won the final set 16 – 25.
Final result Ashcombe Dorking 1, Ipswich Ladies 3 with Anita Cooper awarded MVP.
