Ipswich Ladies book their place in the playoffs.

Ipswich travelled to Portsmouth for their final games of the National league season against league leaders London Lionhearts and playoff rivals South Hants.

Ipswich Ladies vs London Lionhearts

First game was against undefeated Lionhearts, the Lionhearts dominated from the start with very strong serves keeping Ipswich from making any attacks. Despite great blocks at the net from Anita Cooper Ipswich couldn’t hold back the London attack allowing them to claim the first set easily. Ipswich started the next set with much more fire power particularly through Natalia Regucka’s attacks and Iza Karwacka’s serves. The ladies made up far more points this set and went into the next determined to prove themselves. This set proved to be a far more even game, Ipswich even crept ahead during the set, but just missed out by 2 points. Zoe Verow named as Ipswich’s MVP.

An unfortunate 3 – 0 loss to Ipswich and leaving the last match against South Hants a must win to secure the playoff position in the league.

Ipswich Ladies vs South Hants

In stark contrast to the previous game, Ipswich started strong and looked a confident and formidable unit. Jen Ubasa showed her defensive prowess enabling Kasia Plesnar to set up multiple attacks. Consistent serving and minimal mistakes allowed Ipswich to take the first set. The next set Ipswich showed their attacking power with both Zoe Verow and Ania Burejza gaining points through their spikes. With the second set a success, the ladies knew they just had to take the next to secure the second spot in the division. Starting confidently with consistent play and few errors, Ipswich were the dominant side meaning victory was theirs!

Ipswich Make Short Work Against Top of The Table Team

Ipswich Ladies vs Sussex Dolphins 2

With a large home crowd and a full roster of players, the atmosphere for Ipswich Ladies home fixtures was amazing.

The first set saw Ipswich create a great lead against the Sussex side with strong attacks from Anita Cooper, hitting the ball near the 3m line and unstoppable serves from Iza Karwacka. Ipswich kept up their fire power through Ania Burejza and dominated the first set. In the second set, the setting from Kasia Plesnar and great defensive work from libero player Jenny Ubasa sealed the fate of the away side. Something went amiss during the third set and the ladies struggled with errors on their side of the net which resulted in them losing this set. Determined to make a strong comeback, Ipswich held nothing back, with great serving from Marta Holton and Emma Goosey. The team really showed their grit during long rallies which paid off in a deserved win for the home side. Iza Karwacka was awarded MVP for this game.

Ipswich ladies vs South Hants

Ipswich knew South Hants would be tough competition as they currently are sitting top of the pile in NVL Div3SE. From the outset the ladies passing and setting skills were put to the test, thankfully with consistent players such as Natalia Regucka putting in perfect passes, the ladies were able to win the first set and their fitness carried them through to the next. Zoe Verow put away some indefensible attacks through the outside and with Everita Sokolova’s passing and serves the second set was a triumph for Ipswich. Otylia Miazga showed her blocking prowess at the net and the ladies came out on top in the last set, largely due to fighting spirit and a strong sense of togetherness on court. Anita Cooper was awarded MVP this game.

Ipswich ladies would like to send a massive thank you to all who came to support, the noise and atmosphere certainly gave the home side the edge. As always, The ladies thank David Lloyd Ipswich for their sponsorship which has improved the fitness of the girls, making this a fantastically successful season so far.
