Ipswich ladies do it the hard way

Ipswich travelled to the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering for the chance to gain promotion to National League division 2. The winner of the first game would get automatic promotion.

Ipswich Vs Cardiff

The first set was picked up by a dominant Ipswich side keeping the Cardiff attack at bay with great serving from Kasia Plesnar. The next two sets saw Cardiff get back into the game despite great passing and defence from Libero Jenny Ubasa, Ipswich couldn’t capitalise on their attacks. The next 2 sets were vital for Ipswich and with some amazing rallies and considered, calm setting from Iza Karwacka the ladies edged forward in the 4th set. With all to play for in the fifth set it was a blow for the ladies to lose out by 7 points.

The ladies had one more chance for promotion, against Leeds RGA panthers who had lost to Norwich Spikers earlier in the day in day in another play off match.

Knowing that this was the last chance for promotion, the Ipswich ladies threw their all into the game, including Ania Burejza picking up the Leeds attacks easily in her last game for the Ipswich side. A few errors crept into the Ipswich game and they lost their spark and the first two sets, the team needed to stay strong together and started an incredible fight back. The ladies proved their determination with blocks at the net from Otylia Miazga and Natalia Regucka. Ipswich really flew ahead in the next two sets, keeping the Leeds side to less than 10 points with attacking strength and solid passing from Zoe Verow. The whole team played their hearts out knowing this was their last chance for promotion and left the course victorious!

This is a huge achievement for the Ipswich team and all the squad and coach Simon Browne should be massively proud of this seasons success. Ipswich ladies have been grateful for the support of David Lloyd Ipswich providing gym training and maintaining the teams fitness throughout the season.

This weekend saw massive success for not only Ipswich but other fellow East Anglian teams Newmarket men’s team and Norfolk Ladies were also promoted to Division 2.
